Job Description – Field Safety Technician

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license
  • Ability to read and communicate in English
  • Proficiency using computer software to record and report information
  • Perform work as a covered employee under DOT approval status for “sensitive duties”
  • Ability to attain TWIC credentials
  • Ability to attain First Aid/CPR certificate
  • HAZWOPER certified (or ability to attain HAZWOPER certification)
  • Minimum two (2) year-year education for safety professional or four (4) years’ experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test and participate in anti-drug program
  • Demonstrates commitment to a safe and injury-free work environment through own actions and mentoring others
  • Computer proficient – MS Word, Excel, Outlook.  Ability and willingness to learn other software systems.
  • Courteous demeanor

Specific Responsibilities and Duties

  • Works with all employees to instill a safe and environmentally conscientious work environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and WAC safety regulations and codes
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Work with Safety Manager in enforcing compliance with applicable regulations pertaining to health and safety
  • Spend majority of time in the field in an outdoor environment
  • Distribute safety equipment and supplies 
  • Works with the company safety department to investigate all incidents and ensure corrective actions are complete
  • Ability to wear a respirator while performing strenuous tasks
  • Ability to climb a ladder
  • In good physical condition.  Able to walk one to five miles per shift.
  • Conduct Forklift training and aerial lift training
  • Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings as required
  • Provide regulatory safety training and maintain documentation as required
  • Perform fall protection inspection
  • Perform documented safety audits
  • Participate in BAI Safety Committee
  • Participate in site safety committees as required
  • Act as DER for Drug and Alcohol Policy
  • Routinely conduct employee assessments
  • Safety training in a classroom setting by reviewing training materials and videos
  • Housekeeping and safety audits, first aid kit inspections and/or emergency equipment inspections (fire extinguishers, hoses, spill kits, safety signs/stickers)
  • Follow up on safety and housekeeping inspection items
  • Inventory counts
  • Act as Safety Attendant as required
  • Develop and review policies and standard operating procedures as required
  • Maintains and conducts yearly inspection of fall protection equipment  
  • Conducts fit-tests and administers respiratory medical clearances
  • Conducts monthly bump tests of H2S monitors
  • Monitors the BBS/HOP program, including following action items to closure 
  • Oversees annual inspection of hydroblast equipment
  • Oversees required annual safety training compliance

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Four years (min.) experience as a safety professional 
  • Knowledge of state, local and U.S. Government regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Confined Space Entry Supervisor
  • Can train, mentor and supervise others
  • First-Aid/CPR certification
  • Computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
