Dr. Rammohan Maikala

Injury Prevention and Ergonomics Lead

Providence Regional Medical Center

Topic:  Safety Trend Interventions: Injury/Incident Data Analysis

Please join us on November 28th for our Puget Sound ASSP monthly chapter meeting at the Best Western Executive Inn (registration below). We will be welcoming Dr. Rammohan Maikala from Providence Regional Medical Center. Dr. Maikala’s presentation will focus on high reliability in the Hospital Industry.  This industry-wide effort in the US, towards zero harm for all patients throughout their care, will potentially result in safe and reliable care as well as sustain a culture of caregiver and patient safety. Using Slips, Trips, and Falls in a regional medical center as an example, Dr. Maikala will introduce the process for hazard recognition that was undertaken and a few mitigation strategies that were developed for preventing Slips, Trips and Fall related injuries. The importance of applying high-reliability principles to the healthcare industry will be emphasized in the presentation.

Dr. Maikala is an Injury Prevention and Ergonomics Lead at the Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington. Before his arrival to Providence Regional Medical Center, Dr. Maikala was a Research Scientist at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety. His research investigations integrated work/exercise physiology with a variety of disciplines, such as psychophysics, biomechanics, and rehabilitation to better understand the physiological basis of work-related musculoskeletal and cardiovascular disorders. He has more than 40 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has given numerous presentations to ergonomics, human factors, and biomedical audiences at both national and international conferences.

Remember, if you have a colleague, employee, boss, or friend that you feel would be interested in joining the ASSP, take advantage of our “Bring-A-Non-member” deal, bring them to the meeting, and their first entry will be free (a $20.00 value).
