What you’ll do
The Corporate Safety Manager will be responsible for both the strategic oversight and tactical execution of safety programs across all our organization, working in effective collaboration with existing Safety/Compliance/Risk Management personnel and program leadership. This position is an Individual Contributor role, and requires a unique blend of high-level planning and hands-on management to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, compliance with regulatory standards, and the continuous development and improvement of our safety culture. We are in an exciting era of designing and implementing our Safety infrastructure, so the ideal candidate will have the ability to create long-term safety strategies while effectively managing daily operational safety opportunities and challenges

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor of Science in occupational health, emergency management, business or related field. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility within a Safety Operations, Safety Leadership and/or Safety specific position(s).
  • OSHA 30-hour training card/certification required.
  • Experience working with Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.
  • Versed in applicable federal, state and local safety and regulatory standards with demonstrated proficiency applying them in the workplace.
  • Experience in managing workers’ compensation and insurance programs.
  • Experience with incident reporting systems, safety and security audits, and incident investigations.
  • Experience leading Safety related continuous quality improvement programs and practice.
  • Experience coaching, managing, influencing and supervising personnel in adhering to safety policy, procedure and practice in the workplace.  

Preferably you’ll bring

  • Advanced degree in occupational health, emergency management, business or related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) are highly desirable.
  • Experience within manufacturing, healthcare services, and/or non-profit industry preferred.
  • Experience in a management or leadership role (preferably 2+ years) overseeing safety staff.

Compensation:

The full salary range is $94,877 – $158,134.  New hires start between $94,877 – $126,502 based on experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, internal equity, and market factors. GENERAL PURPOSE: 

Plans, develops, implements, and manages the functions, activities, and processes of the Industrial Hygiene (IH) program for the Agency to ensure that it is effective in practice and in alignment with Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles; interfaces regularly and coordinates with IH staff and other staff; reviews processes, programs, and procedures for accuracy, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance; oversees the agency’s Safety Risk Management process for industrial hygiene hazards; coordinates assigned activities with other programs, Departments/Offices, and outside agencies; leads and mentors direct report staff; manages the response to employee safety accidents and incidents involving industrial hygiene programs; manages the development and distribution of employee safety-related information; leads IH staff in providing safety support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned IH staff; assigns work activities and coordinates resources, schedules, projects, and programs; reviews and evaluates the work of team members and provides constructive feedback; coaches, trains, develops, and motivates staff, and makes effective suggestions and recommendations.
  • Develops and fosters strong working relationships with staff, agency departments, consultants, operations contractors, and state and federal agencies.
  • Oversees the agency’s Safety Risk Management process for industrial hygiene safety hazards; manages IH staff-assigned facility safety inspections and assessments documented in the hazard management system to ensure hazard accuracy, mitigation effectiveness, and regulatory compliance; provides oversight for the completion of routine, documented facility safety inspections to identify and track hazards, generate compliance data, and provide recommendations to stakeholders for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates with Safety division leadership to oversee day to day safety activities; interacts with other department/division personnel on behalf of the Safety division; collaborates with all stakeholders to promote a positive safety culture in alignment with established SMS principles.
  • Advises IH staff in the development and presentation of employee safety-related information, including training materials, daily safety messages, and published agency safety articles/topics.
  • Responsible for partnering with Sound Transit operating contractors on monitoring, compliance, and corrective actions, as needed.
  • Provides oversight on the reporting and tracking of industrial hygiene safety data (key performance indicators) in order to identify and share ongoing safety performance towards established agency and department/division goals; analyzes safety data and reports for trends that may add value to the business.
  • Oversees the development, evaluation, updating, implementation, and review of industrial hygiene safety programs and trainings to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the development and administration of the assigned division annual budget; participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; ensures that project(s) expenditures and cost estimates are adequately documented and monitored to their completion; reviews and approves expenditures; and implements adjustments as needed.
  • Provides support to the Agency; participates on a variety of committees; prepares and presents reports and other necessary correspondence; attends and participates in professional organization meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields of industrial hygiene, ensures processes, policies, and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively across the Sound Transit system; ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, Agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field; Five years of experience in industrial hygiene practice and program management in a medium to large organization; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years of leadership, budgetary, planning, and workforce management experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:  

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Valid state driver’s license. Position is responsible transporting equipment to warehouses, capital projects, and construction offices for IH inspections including large/heavy testing equipment.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:  

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

  • Principles of industrial hygiene practice and occupational health and safety program management.

GENERAL PURPOSE:  

Under general direction of the Employee Health and Safety Manager, administers and provides support to various health and safety programs and functions to ensure that it is effective in practice an in alignment with Safety Management System (SMS) principles, including safety inspections, PPE, first aid kits, ergonomics, accident/incident reporting, and employee safety committee; assists in the development, implementation, and management of programs and standard operating procedures to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational injuries and illnesses; analyzes new and existing jobs, tasks, processes, or systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards; coordinates assigned activities with other programs, departments, and outside agencies; works with Senior Health and Safety Specialists as directed; and provides administrative and technical support to the Employee Health and Safety (EHS) Group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides support to health and safety programs and functions for all Agency employees; coordinates with various workgroups on hazard mitigations, safety processes/procedures, training needs, and employee health and safety concerns; provides recommendations and assistance to managers and employees on all aspects of employee health and safety. 
  • Conducts or assists with various facility safety inspections (including offices, operations and maintenance facilities, and warehouses) and conducts safety spot checks to identify hazards and appropriate mitigations, with the goal of ensuring worker safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Administers the agency PPE program, including provisioning and distribution to all employees.

GENERAL PURPOSE: 

Under the general direction of the Director of Emergency Management, the Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for the development, monitoring, correspondence, coordination, collaboration, and management of emergency management procedures and plans for transit events. Coordinate and provide training platforms and activities for first responder agencies, including law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. Be familiar with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) as a lead assigned or assisting with and/or responding to critical incidents in and around Sound Transit property.

The specialist will assist with training, drills, and exercises to practice and continuously improve the Sound Transit Emergency Management program. The Specialist will provide input and deliver emergency management preparedness training programs; responsible for identifying agency emergency management training needs and coordinating with subject matter experts, developing, testing, deploying, and tracking emergency management transit industry trends. Monitor compliance to ensure needed emergency management training, awareness programs, and agency emergency management curricula bring industry best practices. Serves as a point of contact between Emergency Management and local first responder agencies within the region.

  • Assists with plan development and coordinates all-hazard emergency prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery activities in support of Sound Transit’s Emergency Management Program.
  • Assists with the development, creation, implementation of various emergency plans and operations per Federal and State regulations to ensure safe and efficient response to, and management of emergency situations that may affect Sound Transit operations.

During an actual emergency, this position will support coordination of agency response and recovery operations, including liaison role at city/county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or general staff role in Sound Transit (ST) Agency EOC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GENERAL PURPOSE: 

Under the general direction of the Director of Emergency Management, the Senior Emergency  Management Specialist plans, develops, and coordinates all-hazard emergency prevention, protection, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities in support of Sound Transit’s Emergency Management Program. Develops, implements, and maintains various emergency plans and operations per Federal and State regulations to ensure safe and efficient response to, recovery from, and management of emergency situations that may affect Sound Transit operations. 

Ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations that impact daily operations; researches and develops emergency management plans; designs and administers training, drills, and exercises to prepare staff for effective response to major emergencies and disasters; performs other related duties as required.
